Privacy Policy

Effective November 4, 2026

This is the personal blog of Samuel John. I collect as little information about you as I can, I only use it to run this site, and I never sell it. This page explains exactly what's collected and why.

What I collect

  • Your email address, if you subscribe. It's used only to send you new posts. You're not added until you click the link in a confirmation email, and an address that is never confirmed is deleted after a week.
  • Your name, email address and comment, if you leave a comment. Your name and comment are shown publicly with the post. Your email address is never shown. It's used to confirm that you own it and, if you ask, to tell you when someone replies.
  • Your IP address, when you comment. It's kept with the comment to stop spam and abuse.
  • Basic server logs. Like every website, the server records the IP address, browser type and pages requested for each visit. These logs are used to keep the site secure and working, and are deleted regularly.

I don't run advertising, and I don't use tracking or analytics tools that follow you around the web.

Cookies and storage in your browser

  • Session cookies that keep forms on the site secure. They expire after about two hours.
  • A commenter cookie, set only after you confirm your email while commenting, so you don't have to confirm again on that browser.
  • Your light or dark mode choice, saved in your browser (not sent to me).
  • YouTube may store data in your browser, but only if you press play on an embedded video.

You can clear these at any time in your browser settings. The site still works, though you may need to confirm your email again to comment.

Who else sees your information

Only the services that help run the site, and only what they need to do their job:

  • The hosting provider that runs the server and stores the site's data.
  • The email service that sends comment confirmations, reply notifications and new posts to subscribers. The subscriber list itself is stored on this site's server, not with a newsletter company.
  • YouTube, only when you press play on a video in a post. Until then nothing loads from YouTube, and videos play in YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode.

Apart from YouTube when you choose to play a video, I don't allow any other companies to collect information about what you do on this site or across other sites. I'll share information with authorities only if the law requires it.

How long it's kept

  • Your subscriber email: until you unsubscribe, which deletes it right away.
  • Comments and the details stored with them: until the comment is deleted, by you asking or by me. Comments that are never confirmed are deleted after a week.
  • Server logs: a short time, usually no more than a few weeks.

Your choices

  • Every new-post email has an unsubscribe link that removes you right away.
  • You can ask to see, correct or delete the information I hold about you, including your comments, by emailing hello@example.com. I'll respond within 30 days.

Do Not Track

This site doesn't track you over time or across other websites, so it treats every visit the same way whether or not your browser sends a Do Not Track signal.

Children

This site isn't meant for children under 13, and I don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has shared information here, email me and I'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, I'll update it on this page and change the effective date at the top. If a change affects how your email is used, I'll let subscribers know by email first.
